Job Description

Principal Objective of Position:

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for the overall maintenance of construction equipment, tools, trucks, and autos (Equipment) owned by the Company to maximize the utilization of Company owned Equipment. They work in conjunction with the Equipment Manager and Construction Tools and Supplies positions to ensure that Equipment is maintained and kept in good working condition so that they can be used and operated as safely as possible. They will oversee other employees that may be assisting with maintenance and repairs of Equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and tracks maintenance and repairs of Equipment including documentation of repairs and associated labor
  • Coordinates repairs and maintenance of Equipment
  • Perform initial inspection and listing of repairs needed
  • Perform final inspections determination of field readiness
  • Preventing unsatisfactory Equipment from going to the field
  • Supervise other mechanics as assigned and delegate tasks appropriate with skill levels while mentoring and assisting them in developing their skill set
  • Perform high-level technical or major repairs as necessary
  • Perform repairs in field as needed
  • Make determinations as to the appropriateness of using third parties to perform repair and maintenance
  • Purchases parts and supplies needed for stock purposes or on an as needed basis utilizing competitive price ordering
  • Issues purchase orders in accordance with company policy and the accounting system

Other Functions:

  • Assist others in the Warehouse as needed

Education:

  • OSHA 10 Hour Training preferred
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A
  • Certified welder

Experience:

  • 5 years of mechanic experience including 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably including experience with diesel engines

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., minimum 40 hours per week. Hours of Work may fluctuate depending on the needs of the projects.

Travel:

Travel to job sites may be required. Job site locations are variable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Working knowledge of general construction equipment including the appropriate use of the equipment
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the Company’s Programs, Policies and Procedures
  • General knowledge of basic features of Tool Watch or other equipment tracking software
  • General knowledge of means and methods of construction
  • General knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications and using mathematics to solve problems
  • General knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally or in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
