KEOSAUQUA, Iowa — A new activity center soon will rise on the campus of Van Buren County High School in Keosauqua, with construction to be led by Carl A. Nelson & Company (CANCO). The Van Buren County Community School District Board of Education met June 16, 2021, to award a construction management agency contract to CANCO following interviews with multiple firms.

The estimated $3.5 million project will primarily consist of erection of a new activity center to house expanded athletic and training facilities. A new gym will be the dominant feature of the building, which also will house a new weight training facility and wrestling room.

Meanwhile, the project also will entail remodeling the existing wrestling room inside the high school to create additional classroom space.

CANCO's first task as construction manager will be to assist school district officials with selection of an architect to design the facility. Construction is expected to commence in the spring of 2022.
