CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Amid a steady stream of celebrations this summer and fall for the start and end of projects for multiple clients, Carl A. Nelson & Company (CANCO) took the time Oct. 15, 2024, to celebrate a firm milestone of its own.

Purple-jacketed ambassadors from Grow Cedar Valley and Mayor Danny Laudick joined company leaders and members of the CANCO North team for a ribbon-cutting to mark the June move into a permanent office at 3508 Terrace Drive in Cedar Falls. Founded in 1913 and based in Burlington, Iowa, CANCO opened its first office in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls areas with one person in 2008, and moved several times over the years as the project management staff in the office steadily grew. The new office, in a building constructed originally as the color lab of a local photography business, was purchased in February 2024. Compared to the previous leased space, this building has an open floor plan, a large meeting room and space to grow into.

"We found a place that we think will serve us well for the future. It has a good feel and a good vibe for our team members, so we’re pleased with that," said Jamie Stanley, who as a project manager was CANCO's North's first employee, and today leads the office as vice president of operations. "The purchase and ownership of a building here in the Cedar Valley solidifies our commitment not only to who we are as a company in the Cedar Valley, but also to the community."

Mayor Laudick thanked CANCO for choosing Cedar Falls as the location for its permanent home in the region.

"it’s clear that without companies like yours and your investment in buying a building, we wouldn’t thrive," Laudick said, later adding, "I know you had many choices for where to locate your business, and we appreciate you choosing here. Everything you and your team do makes this a meaningful place to live and work."
