CANCO leads Riverside Community/Recreation Center survey

RIVERSIDE, Iowa (CANCO) — The City of Riverside is conducting a survey of city and nearby rural residents, property owners and other stakeholders to determine interest in, and preferred features for, a community/recreation center being considered for construction on city-owned land adjacent to Highland Elementary School in Riverside.
The survey will be available at locations in Riverside to be completed in paper form and left for later collection, as well as online.
“We would like to know what services and amenities would provide the greatest benefit to area residents as we begin the planning process for a new community center,” said Riverside Mayor Allen Schneider. “This will be a big project and we will all need to work together to make it a reality. Please help us get things started by taking the time to provide us with your feedback.”
At a meeting Oct. 19, the Riverside City Council voted to award a consulting contract to Carl A. Nelson & Company to seek resident input on the features to include in a community center, and to prepare a schematic design that would be the basis for future development.
Depending on interest level, a City Council-appointed steering committee would conduct focus group meetings to finalize a prioritized list of features to be included. Using survey feedback and stakeholder input, the City Council will determine how to proceed on the proposed project.
