MANNING, Iowa — Carl A. Nelson & Company's project management and field leadership team took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, June 12, at IKM-Manning Middle School/High School, to open construction of an addition to the school that will be open for the 2025-26 school year.

Project Manager Nick Liston joined district officials and a representative of the design team in making remarks about the project prior to taking part in the ceremonial turning of shovels.

The completed project will include the gym, two makerspace classrooms, and a commons/multipurpose area. The gym will feature seating for 251 spectators for middle school competitions, and will expand the district’s available practice space for secondary sports programs. The makerspace classrooms, Fire & Spark, are geared toward lessons in entrepreneurship, manufacturing and sales, with equipment for hands-on experiences for students. The commons will be set up with cafeteria-style seating, can be used as a concessions are for events, and is capable of being used to host large student or public events and activities.

The $8.4 million project is being funded using sales tax revenue from the district’s share of Iowa’s SAVE program funds.

Carl A. Nelson & Company has been working in the role of Construction Manager Agent for IKM-Manning CSD, providing pre-construction services to the district to help deliver a design that could be completed within the available budget. With construction now underway, our on-site superintendent will manage the efforts of prime contractors to assure quality, budget, schedule and safety performance.

The $8.04 million, 15,805 SF project will be built as an addition to the middle school/high school building in Manning, Iowa. The work includes an 15,610 SF addition, and 195 SF of interior remodeling where the new building connects to the existing.
