Carl A. Nelson & Company welcomes Patrick Von Lehmden, field supervisor with more than 30 years of commercial and civil construction industry experience.

A desire to return to his roots in commercial construction, after years spent building roads and bridges, helped Carl A. Nelson & Company add the experience of new Project Superintendent Patrick Von Lehmden to its veteran team of field supervisors.

"I wanted to get back into the building side of it, and Carl A. Nelson & Company has a pretty good reputation," said Von Lehmden, who joined the Burlington, Iowa-based firm on Sept. 18, 2023.

The 32-year industry veteran cited a common theme among builders, that being the enjoyment of seeing a building through from start to finish, and knowing they put their stamp on it

"I just love seeing stuff that I completed," Von Lehmden said.

A native of Independence, Iowa, Von Lehmden, learned to use his hands growing up on the family farm. He started in construction with a hometown firm the summer before graduating from high school in 1992, and spent the first 15 years of his career in commercial construction, advancing to a supervisory role, as well as operating a crane and other heavy equipment. Memorable projects from that time include building the new Barrett Forum building for the Allen College School of Nursing in Waterloo, and remodeling the OB/GYN unit of Gunderson Palmer Hospital in West Union. He moved to the St. Louis area after that, taking his skills into the civil arena for a paving contractor, and continued in that after returning to Iowa to help his mother when his father fell ill in 2011. At that time, he was living and working in Cincinnati, and studying for a construction management degree.
