CANCO adds project manager in Cedar Falls office

Matt Shaner joined Carl A. Nelson & Company in August 2024 as a project manager, expanding the construction project leadership team in the firm's Cedar Falls office.

A 2000 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Construction Management, Matt has spent the years since working primarily in commercial construction. He traces the beginnings of his career even earlier, to his mid-teens working for his uncle's construction company, where Matt said he poured "a lot of concrete."

He also worked with a concrete and masonry company throughout college.

Matt's career includes several years running his own company. More recently, he has gained field and office leadership experience working for a pair of larger firms since where he has been engaged in commercial/industrial construction, hotel and multi-family residential work. He said commercial and industrial work appeals to him from the standpoint of how the projects are run and the processes involved in meetings a client's needs. It was on a job that Matt first became connected to Carl A. Nelson & Company, which in joining he said "just seemed like a pretty good fit."

Away from work, Matt is the father of two sons, 20-year-old Drew, who is attending UNI as a business major; and 18-year-old Nic, who is attending lineman school in Sheldon, Iowa.

Matt described interests that include being in the outdoors, including fishing and scuba-diving.
